Roman is an environmental scientist, and much of his research is focused on what makes man-made chemicals dangerous to the environment. He is particularly interested in ecotoxicology and computer modelling, combining field and laboratory experiments with theory and computation. He is also investigating why aquatic species vary in their sensitivity to pollution, how ecological factors influence pollution effects and new concepts for replacing animals in toxicity testing.
